The new showrunner of Doctor Who<\/em> is… Russell T Davies, who previously acted as showrunner on the show from 2005 to 2010.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Davies will make an explosive return to screens to celebrate the 60th\u00a0anniversary of Doctor Who<\/em> in 2023, “and”, the BBC teases, “series beyond”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And it’ll be produced by BBC Studios and Bad Wolf!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Davies left the show in 2009, although his final story aired on New Year’s Day 2010. Steven Moffat took over from him from Series 5. Russell T Davies says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m beyond excited to be back on my favourite show. But we\u2019re time-travelling too fast, there\u2019s a whole series of Jodie Whittaker\u2019s brilliant Doctor for me to enjoy, with my friend and hero Chris Chibnall at the helm \u2013 I\u2019m still a viewer for now.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Current showrunner, Chris Chibnall says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s monumentally exciting and fitting that Doctor Who<\/em>\u2019s 60th anniversary will see one of Britain\u2019s screenwriting diamonds return home. Russell built the baton that is about to be handed back to him\u00a0— Doctor Who<\/em>, the BBC, the screen industry in Wales, and let\u2019s be honest everyone in the whole world, have so many reasons to be Very Excited Indeed about what lies ahead.\u201d \u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
