The answer might just be: UNIT!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, the UNified Intelligence Taskforce (formerly the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce) has returned &#8212; as has Kate Stewart, played by Jemma Redgrave!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Redgrave made a surprise return in the Next Time trailer at the end of the previous episode of <em>Flux<\/em>, <em>Village of the Angels<\/em>, and thanks to a newly-released image for <em>Survivors of the Flux<\/em>, we can now see that she&#8217;s bringing UNIT with her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The military staple of <em>Doctor Who<\/em> was introduced in <em>The Invasion<\/em> (1968) before becoming a mainstay for the Third Doctor era. They reappeared numerous times, including through sly introductions in 21st Century <em>Doctor Who<\/em> in <em>Aliens of London\/ World War Three<\/em> and <em>The Christmas Invasion<\/em> (both 2005).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But they were last actually seen in <em>The Return of Doctor Mysterio<\/em> (2016), albeit very briefly; their last full on-screen appearance was the previous year&#8217;s <em>The Zygon Invasion\/ The Zygon Inversion<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(That is, aside from multimedia platforms, like the <em>Lethbridge-Stewart<\/em> novels and the Big Finish audio adventures.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fans then let off screams of dismay when they were seemingly retired in <em>Resolution<\/em> (2019), apparently due to financial disputes (aka a cheap gag about Brexit). Fortunately, we always knew the team would be back somehow: UNIT is represented in the far future, including in <em>Under the Lake\/ Before the Flood<\/em> (2015), set in 2119.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"NEXT TIME | Survivors of the Flux | Doctor Who\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/q10LeiqcYxs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We&#8217;re further hearing that this won&#8217;t be the last time we see UNIT in the Thirteenth Doctor era.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nonetheless: hurrah for the return of UNIT! With Kate Stewart back, we wonder if Osgood (Ingrid Oliver) will return too. And if she&#8217;d be a human or a Zygon.
