Please excuse this bit of self-promotion, but 100 Objects of Doctor Who<\/em>, published by Candy Jar Books and written by me, is featured in the latest issue of the digital magazine, Reel Social<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The magazine is centred around “both individuals and productions within the TV, Film, and Performing Arts industries”, to raise awareness of productions, touring shows, one-off events, industry-related publications, and more. And so, Reel Social<\/em> includes a full interview with me, in which I discuss Doctor Who<\/em>‘ enduring popularity and its ability to inspire; previous contributions and books like The Brigadier Declassified <\/em>and The Black Archive: The Pandorica Opens\/ The Big Bang<\/em>; and of course, 100 Objects of Doctor Who<\/em> in detail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For instance, I talk about trying to make this book something unusual:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I knew I had to do something really different to stand out, so as well as retelling the behind-the-scenes, the main narrative of Doctor Who<\/em>, and including all the bits you’d expect from a non-fiction tome, I added in as many off-beat elements as I could, stuff you probably won’t find anywhere else. So there’s a section on how many Doctors and companions have actually met the Cybermen. Another chapter looks at the crossover between Doctor Who<\/em> and Marvel Comics. I love comics, so that was an essential for me. There are sections on how Doctor Who<\/em> reflects our fear of technology; on Greek myths; on the most prolific directors; on live events; and a lot more.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
